What is Autism Spectrum Disorder?

Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) is a complex developmental disability and affects a person’s ability to communicate and interact with others.  It is often characterized by stereotyped or repetitive use of language, motor mannerisms, lack or delay of spoken language, inflexible adherence to specific non-functional routines and little or no eye contact.

Please remember each child with ASD is different!  One child may exhibit many obvious “autistic like” characteristics and another child may only exhibit them in certain situations.  A popular saying in the autism world is “if you meet one person with autism, you’ve met one person with autism.”
